Easy Tuna Melt: Crispy & Cheesy Delight

Description

A crispy, cheesy, and savory tuna melt that’s quick and easy to make! This comfort food favorite combines flaky tuna salad, gooey melted cheese, and buttery golden-brown bread, making it a perfect meal for lunch, dinner, or even a satisfying snack. Serve it with potato chips or a fresh salad for the ultimate deli-style experience!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Tuna Salad:

  • 5 oz canned tuna, drained (Wild Planet Albacore Tuna recommended)
  • 3–4 tbsp mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt for a healthier option)
  • 2 dill pickle spears, minced (or 1 tbsp relish)
  • 1/4 tsp steak seasoning (or your favorite spice blend)

For the Sandwich:

  • 2 slices cheddar cheese (or Gruyere, Havarti, or Muenster)
  • 4 slices bread (Italian, sourdough, or gluten-free options)
  • Softened butter (for a golden, crispy crust)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tuna Salad: In a mixing bowl, drain the canned tuna and flake it with a fork. Add the mayonnaise, minced pickles, and steak seasoning, then mix well until evenly combined.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich: Spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice. Flip two slices over and divide the tuna salad between them. Top with a slice of cheddar cheese and cover with the remaining slices of bread, buttered-side up.
  3. Cook the Tuna Melt: Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the sandwiches onto the heated surface and cook for 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Flip carefully with a spatula and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes, ensuring the cheese melts completely.
  4. Serve & Enjoy: Remove from the heat, slice in half, and serve immediately with chips, pickles, or a fresh side salad.

Notes

  • To make it healthier, substitute Greek yogurt for mayonnaise and use whole-grain or gluten-free bread.
  • Try an open-faced version by using just one slice of bread and broiling it until bubbly and golden.
  • Add toppings like avocado, tomato slices, or pickled onions for extra flavor and texture.
