Taco Style Pizza Crust: Tex-Mex Mash-Up

Description

This taco style pizza crust blends the bold flavors of Tex-Mex tacos with the comforting crispiness of pizza, topped with seasoned beef, refried beans, melty cheese, and fresh toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh pizza dough
  • 1/3 cup pastry flour (for rolling)
  • 15 oz refried black beans
  • 8 oz red enchilada sauce
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup chicken stock
  • 2 tsp all-purpose flour
  • Taco seasoning mix (or chili powder, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, oregano, sea salt, and pepper)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 12 oz shredded Mexican blend cheese
  • 4 oz shredded mild cheddar cheese
  • 4 oz shredded Monterey jack cheese
  • Fresh pico de gallo
  • Pickled or fresh jalapeño slices
  • Black olives
  • Fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Spread pastry flour over a work surface and roll dough into a rectangular shape.
  3. Transfer dough to a greased 9×13 baking sheet, folding edges slightly to form a crust.
  4. In a skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat with taco seasoning until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. In a saucepan, combine refried beans, enchilada sauce, minced garlic, olive oil, chicken stock, flour, and spices. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Spread the bean sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a border.
  7. Layer the cooked beef on top of the sauce.
  8. Add shredded Mexican blend cheese, pico de gallo, jalapeño slices, black olives, cheddar, and Monterey jack cheese.
  9. Bake for 18–20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  10. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.

Notes

  • Use pastry flour to prevent sticking and ensure a light crust.
  • A pre-made crust can be substituted for fresh dough in a pinch.
  • Customize toppings with lettuce, guacamole, or crushed chips after baking.
  • Let dough come to room temperature for easier rolling.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
