  • 200 g icing sugar
  • 7 tbsp warm water
  • Hundreds and thousands (sprinkles), for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180ยฐC / 350ยฐF (160ยฐC Fan / gas mark 4). Line a baking tin with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the margarine and caster sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Fold in the self-raising flour, add vanilla, and milk if desired.
  5. Transfer batter to baking tin; smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 25โ€“30 minutes. Check with a skewer; if it comes out clean, the cake is done.
  7. Let the cake cool completely on a cake rack.
  8. Mix icing sugar with warm water, spread over cake, and add sprinkles.
  9. Allow the icing to set before slicing the cake.
