Description
Homemade fried cheese bites are crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, and perfect for snacks, parties, or kid-friendly treats.
Ingredients
Scale
- 10 oz mozzarella string cheese (about 10 sticks)
- 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- Cayenne pepper (optional)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- Cut the mozzarella string cheese into 4-5 bite-sized pieces per stick.
- In a bowl, whisk the eggs and milk together until fully combined.
- Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with flour, one with the egg-milk mixture, and one with bread crumbs (add cayenne if using).
- Dip each cheese piece in flour, then egg mixture, and then coat in breadcrumbs.
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a skillet to 350ยฐF (use a thermometer to ensure accuracy).
- Fry 5-7 cheese bites at a time for about 30 seconds or until golden brown. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Remove fried bites using a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Serve immediately with dipping sauces like marinara or ranch.
Notes
- Double-coat the cheese bites for extra crispiness.
- Freeze the coated bites for 15 minutes before frying to help them hold shape.
- Use low-moisture cheeses like mozzarella or cheddar to prevent excessive melting.
