This classic beef lasagne features layers of perfectly seasoned ground beef, rich tomato sauce, and creamy cheese, all baked to golden perfection. It’s a comforting, crowd-pleasing dish perfect for family dinners, meal prep, or special gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Meat Sauce:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Β½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 Β½ cups tomato-basil pasta sauce

For the Cheese Mixture:

  • 16 oz cottage cheese
  • Β½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 2 eggs

For the Lasagne Layers:

  • 12 whole wheat lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles in a large pot of lightly salted boiling water until al dente (about 10 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  3. Prepare the meat sauce: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with garlic, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir and cook until the beef is browned and crumbly (about 10 minutes). Stir in the tomato-basil pasta sauce and let simmer.
  4. Make the cheese mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine cottage cheese, Parmesan cheese, and eggs. Stir until fully blended.
  5. Assemble the lasagne:
    • Spread a layer of meat sauce at the bottom of a 9Γ—13-inch baking dish.
    • Arrange 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
    • Add a layer of the cheese mixture, followed by more meat sauce.
    • Repeat the layering process two more times, ending with a final layer of sauce.
    • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  6. Bake the lasagne: Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  7. Rest before serving: Let the lasagne sit for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a healthier variation, swap cottage cheese for ricotta or use low-fat cheese. You can also add spinach or mushrooms to the layers for extra flavor and nutrition. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Enjoy with a side of quinoa salad for a refreshing balance!
