Description

This Apple Pie recipe brings the magic of homemade baking right to your kitchen with a flaky, buttery crust and a warm, cinnamon-spiced apple filling. It’s a nostalgic dessert that’s perfect for any occasion, from cozy fall afternoons to summer evenings with a scoop of ice cream on the side.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Pie Crust:

  • 1 Perfect Pie Crust Recipe (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/4 cup butter

For the Apple Filling:

  • 8 cups thinly sliced Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples
  • 2/3 cup lightly packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Egg Wash & Topping:

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • Coarse sugar (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apple Filling:
Melt the butter in a large pot over medium-low heat. Add the sliced apples, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, lemon juice, and salt. Stir occasionally and cook for about 8-10 minutes, or until the apples soften. Remove from heat and let the filling cool before assembling the pie.

  2. Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  3. Roll the Pie Crust:
Roll out half of your pie dough to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Gently press it into the bottom of the plate. Pour the cooled apple filling into the crust.

  4. Assemble the Pie:
Roll out the second half of the dough and place it over the filling (or cut it into strips for a lattice top). Seal the edges by crimping with your fingers or a fork. Brush the top with an egg wash made from the egg and water, then sprinkle with coarse sugar (if using).

  5. Bake:
Bake the pie at 425°F for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F and bake for another 40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.

  6. Cool & Serve:
Allow the pie to cool before slicing. Serve with whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • Use Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples for a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness.
  • Keep your dough chilled to ensure a flaky crust.
  • Don’t skip the egg wash for a beautiful golden finish.
  • Allow the pie to cool before slicing to ensure the filling sets properly.
  • Serve this pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, or even a drizzle of caramel sauce for a richer flavor.
  • For a variation, try pairing it with a warm cup of spiced cider or tea for the perfect fall treat.
